Mountains have a way of making everything else feel smaller — the noise, the rush, the ordinary weight of days. I painted this valley from that feeling. The moment when the peaks catch the last light and the forest below goes quiet and the foreground fills with something soft and purple that you almost can’t name.

The palette knife moves differently on a mountain painting. The snow needs to be built up, not brushed — thick and directional, so it holds its own light. The forest is layered deep green over dark, the sky pushed in wide strokes from cool blue to pale. The lavender meadow in the foreground was the last thing I added, and it changed the whole mood of the piece.

It is an 8 × 8 inch original, painted in heavy impasto oil on hardboard panel. The surface is textured and physical — the kind of painting that rewards a closer look.
